Latitude Technologies
Latitude Technologies (Tasmania, Australia, 1994-2011) evolved in 2011 into Latitude Solutions (Gers, France).
Latitude Technologies (1994-2011) was based in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Tasmania is a magnificent
temperate island located in the Southern mid-latitudes. It opens up to the Southern Ocean and, further South, to the Antarctic.
Hobart, Tasmania's capital city, is one of the world's major gateways to the Southern Ocean and the Antarctic continent.
Latitude Technologies' work was initially focused on energy efficiency and the use of alternative energy solutions (including renewables)
for the Antarctic stations. It widened to resource efficiency in general
- including through pooling resources, sharing information and developing collaborative practices.
In 2003, Latitude Technologies was contracted to manage the secretariat of
the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (COMNAP) for 6 years.
With members from 29 countries from all continents, COMNAP brought together the government agencies
with national responsibility for managing the support of scientific research in the Antarctic Treaty Area.
Latitude Technologies' work evolved towards governance, in particular in support of transparency,
information sharing, increased participation and improved collaboration.
Latitude Technologies was closed in 2011 in Tasmania to evolve into Latitude Solutions, based in Gers, France.
